Why is Yoga so Popular?

Yoga has been around for thousands of years, but it is in the past few decades that it has become immensely popular. The practice of yoga involves physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, which can provide numerous benefits to individuals. There are several reasons why yoga has become so popular:

# 1. Stress Relief

In today’s fast-paced world, stress and anxiety have become an unavoidable part of life. Yoga provides a way to calm the mind and reduce stress levels. Regular practice of yoga has been known to reduce cortisol levels (stress hormone) in the body, leading to a sense of calmness and well-being. Core strength is built through the practice of yoga.

# 2. Physical Fitness

Yoga postures (asanas) provide a full-body workout, which helps in building strength, flexibility and balance. Unlike other forms of exercise, yoga is low-impact and can be practiced by people of all ages and fitness levels. It is an excellent way to tone the body and maintain overall physical health.

# 3. Mental Clarity

Yoga aims to promote mental clarity and emotional stability. The breathing techniques (pranayama) used in yoga help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Meditation (dhyana) is the 7th limb of the 8 limbs of yoga and brings calm to the practitioner along with a stilling of the mind.
