Lion Pose Theme Yoga class with Stories from Mythology
Warm Power Flow: The Lion
Sunday, October 25 · 2:00 to 3:00 PM
Arizona Bouldering Project, Tempe
Taught by Larissa and Christian
A one-hour warm power flow built around one peak pose: Lion Pose (Siṁhāsana). Expect strong, breath-led vinyasa, core work, hip openers, and plenty of chances to build heat before we arrive at the lion.
The class is themed on the story of Narasiṁha, the lion avatar of Viṣṇu. In the myth, the demon king Hiraṇyakaśipu had a blessing that made him nearly impossible to defeat: he could be killed by neither man nor beast, neither inside nor outside, neither day nor night, by no weapon, on neither earth nor sky. So Viṣṇu took a form that was half man, half lion, met him at twilight on the threshold of his own palace, and defeated him there. It's a story about meeting the impossible thing in your life with courage and a form it didn't see coming.
We'll open with a short version of the story, flow hard, and finish at the peak with the full expression of Lion Pose, roar included. Bring water and be ready to sweat. Modifications offered throughout.
